Types of Muscle 

There are three types of muscle tissue: visceral, cardiac and skeletal. 


Visceral muscle. Visceral muscle is found in organs such as the stomach, intestines and blood vessels. The lowest of all muscle tissue, visceral organs muscles actually contract to move substances through the body. Because the visceral muscle is controlled by the unconscious part of the brain, which is known as involuntary muscle can not be directly controlled by the conscious mind. The term "smooth muscle" is often used to describe the visceral muscle because it has a very smooth and uniform appearance when viewed under a microscope. This contrasts sharply with Smooth bands cardiac and skeletal muscles.


The heart muscle. Only found in the heart, the muscle of the heart is responsible for pumping blood throughout the body. The muscular tissue of the heart can not be controlled consciously, is an involuntary muscle. While hormones and brain signals to adapt to the pace of contraction, the heart muscle itself stimulates contract. The natural pacemaker of the heart is composed of cardiac muscle tissue that stimulates other cells of the heart muscle to contract. Due to its self-stimulation, the heart muscle is considered inherently autorhythmic or controlled.

The cardiac muscle cells are striated it is, they seem to have light and dark bands when viewed under an optical microscope. The arrangement of the protein fibers within cells makes these light and dark bands. Streaks indicate that muscle cells is very strong, unlike the visceral muscles.

The cardiac muscle cells are branched or closely interconnected by joints called spacers special shaped disc XY cells. Intercalated disks consist of projections of the fingers of two neighboring cells that fit and provide a strong bond between the cells. The branched structure and intercalated discs allow muscle cells to withstand high blood pressure and stress of pumping blood throughout life. These features also help to spread rapidly electrochemical signals from cell to cell so that the heart can beat as one.

The skeletal muscle. Skeletal muscle is the only voluntary muscular tissue in the human body is controlled consciously. Each physical action a person makes consciously (eg, talk, walk or write) requires skeletal muscle. Skeletal muscle function is to contract to move the parts of the body closest to the bone, the muscle is attached. Most muscles are attached to the skeleton through a two joint bone, such that the muscle is used to move the bone portions closer to each other.
